Unlocking and locking the doors from the outside

Key

  1. Locks all the doors
  2. Unlocks all the doors
    Turning the key unlocks the driver's door. Turning the key again unlocks the other doors.

    Vehicles with moon roof:

  3. Closes the moon roof (turn and hold)
  4. Opens the moon roof (turn and hold)

Wireless remote control (if equipped)

  1. Locks all the doors
    Check that the door is securely locked.
  2. Unlocks all the doors
    Pressing the button unlocks the driver's door. Pressing the button again within 3 seconds unlocks the other doors.

■Operation signals (vehicles with wireless remote control) A buzzer sounds and the emergency flashers flash to indicate that the doors have been locked/unlocked. (Locked: once; Unlocked: twice)

■Door lock buzzer (vehicles with wireless remote control) If an attempt to lock the doors is made when a door is not fully closed, a buzzer sounds continuously for 5 seconds. Fully close the door to stop the buzzer, and lock the vehicle once more.

■Security feature (vehicles with wireless remote control) If a door is not opened within approximately 60 seconds after the vehicle is unlocked, the security feature automatically locks the vehicle again.

■Alarm (if equipped) Using the wireless remote control to lock the doors will set the alarm system.

■ Inside lock buttons

  1. Locks the door
  2. Unlocks the door

The front doors can be opened by pulling the inside handle even if the lock buttons are in the lock position.

Locking the front doors from the outside without a key

  1. Move the inside lock button to the lock position.
  2. Close the door.

Vehicles with power door lock system: The door cannot be locked if either of the front doors is open and the key is in the engine switch.

Rear door child-protector lock

The door cannot be opened from inside the vehicle when the lock is set.

  1. Unlock
  2. Lock

These locks can be set to prevent children from opening the rear doors. Push down on each rear door switch to lock both rear doors.

Automatic door locking and unlocking systems

The following functions can be set or canceled:

Function Operation
Shift position linked door locking function Shifting the shift lever out of P locks all the doors.
Shift position linked door unlocking function Shifting the shift lever to P unlocks all the doors.
Speed linked door locking function All the doors are locked when the vehicle speed is approximately 12 mph (20 km/h) or higher.
Driver's door linked door unlocking function All the doors are unlocked when the driver's door is opened within 10 seconds after turning the engine switch to the "LOCK" position.

 

WARNING

■To prevent an accident Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.

Failure to do so may result in a door opening and an occupant throwing out of the vehicle, resulting in death or serious injury.

  • Ensure that all doors are properly closed and locked.
  • Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.

    Be especially careful for the front doors, as the doors may be opened even if the inside lock buttons are in locked position.

  • Double Cab and CrewMax models: Set the rear door child-protector locks when children are seated in the rear seats.
