DESCRIPTION The ECM monitors the output voltage to the throttle actuator. This self-check ensures that the ECM is functioning properly. The output voltage usually is 0 V when the ignition switch is turned off. If the output voltage is higher than 7 V when the ignition switch is turned off, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store a DTC when the ignition switch is turned to ON.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT NOTICE: After
turning ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before
disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the
negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work (See
page HINT: Read freeze frame data using a Techstream. Freeze frame data record the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred. PROCEDURE
(a) Clear DTCs (See page
(b) Turn the ignition switch off. (c) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and wait for 1 minute. (d) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal. (e) Turn the ignition switch to ON for 10 seconds. (f) Turn the ignition switch off. (g) Turn the ignition switch to ON. (h) Check for DTCs. OK: P0657 is not present.
